Monsoon season
It may be a scorcher (even in Forfar!) but it's Monsoon season at the Frockery as we have been busy cataloguing a selection of dresses, tops and skirts from the ever-popular high street brand.
One of our favourite labels, Monsoon has grown into a global phenomenon from its humble beginnings on a market stall in London's Portobello Road in 1973 - shortly before the chief frocker bought her first Afghan coat with her first student grant (yes, we got grants, not loans, back then).
When Monsoon's founder Peter Simon returned from his world travels and introduced his distinctive and unique range of ethnic, hand made apparel from India, Afghanistan and the Far East, he tapped into the bohemian vibe that was to define the 70s.
As an anecdotal aside, an old Glaswegian friend of the chief frocker used to drive the Magic Bus to India in the 70s, and it is to her eternal regret that she never took a trip due to university finals getting in the way. Years later, one of the minor frockers now counts India as a favourite destination in her role as a buyer for an international brand and she has promised to take her old mother there to 'feel the textile love' before it's too late!
Monsoon garments are ethically sourced and beautifully crafted, many featuring the hand embroidery, embellishments and details for which the label is renowned. Contemporary collections continue to reflect Monsoon's roots, featuring colourful fabrics and designs from across the globe and staying true to its original vision.
If you want a quality garment you won't go wrong with this iconic brand, and preloved pieces are always in demand, especially earlier examples from the 70s.
Here are a few of our preloved favourites from the current Frockery catalogue.
