Frockery Challenge
The Frockery Eco-Fashion Challenge
Our annual Frockery Eco-Fashion Challenge runs throughout the month of February, the shortest, darkest and most depressingly bill-filled month of the year, when we encourage customers, friends and followers to vaunt the vintage, rock the retro and celebrate the second hand, recycled and hand made.
Our inaugural challenge was held in 2011 as a fun way of combating the February blues while giant snowdrifts brought the country to a virtual standstill. It was such fun that we decided to turn it into an annual slow fashion event. The 'rules' are simple and few, so why not come and join us for our next frock-up?
The rules are simple
Aim to wear clothing and accessories which are vintage, hand made, second hand or recycled during February and post your pictures, outfit descriptions, sources and 'stories behind the style' on the Frockery Facebook Group (it's a closed group but just send a join request). Alternatively you can post on the public Frockery Facebook Page or on our Twitter feed (using the #frockerychallenge hashtag so we don't miss it). If all else fails, just email us directly and we'll post for you. You can showcase as many or as few outfits as you like over the course of the month.
Pics mean prizes
Our judges had been finding it increasingly difficult to choose just one overall winner and a runner up from the myriad of stylish outfits paraded down our virtual catwalk. So in 2020, we offered vouchers to all participants rather than pick winners and runners-up for the vintage, preloved and hand-made categories.
Due to the Covid crisis, we hosted a slimmed-down version of our challenge for 2021 with vouchers available for participants who were invited to share lockdown looks for their various everyday activities, whether that’s a virtual meeting with colleagues, home educating the children, heading out for daily exercise or essential activities, or even dressing for dinner!
2022 challenges
We decided not to run a challenge in 2022 due to multiple other challenges of our own! Too many commitments, two few staff, too little time and some of the worst storms in years all conspired against us, as we explained in this blog post. However, we are still encouraging customers, friends and supporters to share their vintage, preloved and hand-made looks through the usual channels in the spirit of celebrating sustainable style.
So come on everybody, let's frock again like we did last Feb'ry (and the ones before!)
